Madrid Declaration: Global Privacy Standards for a Global World

Affirming that privacy is a fundamental
human right set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and other human
rights instruments and national constitutions;

Reminding the EU member countries of their obligations to enforce
the provisions of the 1995 Data Protection Directive and the 2002
Electronic Communications Directive;

Reminding other OECD member countries of their obligations to uphold the principles set out in the 1980 OECD Privacy Guidelines;

Two of the world’s largest environmental organizations, IUCN and WWF, supported by Nokia, are launching connect2earth.org for young people to tell the world, what they think about the environment.

A new online community where young people can have their say on the environment by uploading videos, pictures and comments is being launched today.

WEDNESDAY, 12 MARCH - Online Free Expression Day and Demo against Internet Censorship

Reporters Without Borders will launch the first International Online Free Expression Day under UNESCO's patronage on 12 March, when it will also organise its second "24-hour online demo against Internet censorship," urging Internet users to come and demonstrate on its website, www.rsf.org.
