eINDIA 2008 is a mega event that will showcase diverse initiatives in collective governance, education, healthcare, community management, and other participatory development programmes. The event is an attempt to assess the role of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in developmental programmes and to recognise the great practitioners who use ICTs for expediting sustainable development. The event will incorporate seven thematic tracks spread across more than 60 sessions and will involve more than 300 discussants including panelists and session chairs. The seven thematic tracks viz. e-Agriculture, e-Governance, Digital Learning, e-Health, Indian Telecentre Forum, m-Serve and Municipal IT, are based on education, government services, agriculture, healthcare services, mobile phone services, telecentre, etc and the subsequent application of ICTs in the said areas.
In order to make the event more effective and all encompassing, Centre for Science Development and Media Studies (CSDMS) plans to confer eINDIA 2008 Awards to distinguish professionals and institutions working primarily on the aforesaid domains. The eINDIA Award programme is held annually alongside the eINDIA conference proceeding. The award is open for all national and international Government organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and enterprise who have transformed social development opportunities into a sustainable social enterprise through innovative use of ICTs. For each track/domain, we have announced three categories of awards, which are:

# Award for Best NGO initiative of the year
# Award for Best Policy initiative of the year
Apart from the general category of awards we have some special categories for performers who manifest overwhelming achievements indifferent domains with individual capacity and efforts. These special category awards underscores outstanding and remarkable achievements in different fields viz. e-Agriculture, e-Governance, Education, e-Health, Telecentre, m-Serve, Municipal IT. The special category awards in each track are as follows:
e-Agriculture: Best Farming excellence Award
e-Governance: Best ICT enabled Government Department of the year
Digital Learning: Best ICT enabled School of the year
Digital Learning: Best ICT enabled University of the year
e-Health: Best ICT enabled Hospital of the year
Telecentre: Best innovations at the grassroots telecentres
m-SERVE: Best innovative Mobile service provider of the year
Municipal IT: Best ICT enabled Municipal of the year
We are inviting willful nominations from individual participants, Government organisations, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs), private institutions and enterprise who have transformed social development opportunities into a sustainable social enterprise through innovative use of ICTs.
